One of the projects in the Jewelry and Metals program is the making
of a metal box. I encourage individual expression. Designs are worked
on and discussed at length, before the metalwork begins.
There are many techniques that we cover: piercing, forming, forging, chasing,
grinding, soldering, riveting, modeling and casting...
Each method has its advantages. Well chosen techniques, thoughtfully combined with good
design and craftsmanship is a formula for success.
For these young artists, the results can be quite spectacular.

The final box is more than a
container. It is a maze in five
layers of copper and brass.
